Ziwei’s practice and intellectual enquiry concern with authenticity in the digital age, lead by her ongoing investigation in the presentation and representation of the self with performance-based photography and video.
Her recent works reflect and question the mechanisms behind today’s “face value” economy; diving into problematic issues of cultural appropriation, eurocentric globalisation, race and gender politics, with a focus on orientalism and performative femininity.
Ziwei’s ongoing social-media based performance Chinese Barbie’s Chinese Friend was recently featured on Mulazine.
