Arthoods Review

At Arthoods, we are drawn to the quiet sensitivity within Beatriz Santos’ practice and the way everyday materials are transformed into deeply personal visual narratives.Through fabric, found objects, imagery, and painting, the works explore memory, intimacy, and the emotional traces that ordinary objects can carry over time. Fragments of daily life are carefully layered and reassembled, allowing familiar materials to hold a sense of tenderness, distance, and reflection.

As the writer of this text, although we do not come from the same cultural background, I found myself unexpectedly moved by the emotional traces embedded within the works. Certain details, textures, and quiet moments naturally brought me back to memories of my own childhood and personal experiences. It is perhaps within these subtle and often overlooked fragments of everyday life that the works begin to create a genuine emotional connection.Perhaps this is one of the most beautiful qualities of art — even between people from different places and backgrounds, there remains a possibility for shared emotion, reflection, and comfort. It is through this sincerity and quiet humanity that Arthoods is pleased to present the works of Beatriz Santos.

Artist Statement

I am a multimedia British-Portuguese emerging artist based in London. I use oil painting, film, papier mâché, printmaking, and mural installations to explore personal experiences of intimacy, migration, play, domesticity and sadness. Framing is central to my practice – as a European historical tradition, creative act, and conceptual problem. I frame my paintings in elaborate ways with recycled materials and found objects to explore and complicate the perceived boundaries between art and life, fantasy and reality, image and object. In 2025, I began incorporating childhood relics and using my grandmother’s embroidered household linen as painting supports. This year, I developed this further by incorporating mother-of-pearl, jetsam, and industrial litter in my frames. My work bears witness to everyday frustrations exacerbated by ecological crises, like driving in a storm or finding litter on the beach.
