Sian Wei
Sian Wei is a China-based artist and illustrator whose practice centres on narrative illustration and painting. She holds a BA in Illustration from Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London, and a BA in Fashion and Accessory Design from Shanghai Institute of Visual Art. Working primarily with watercolour, she is drawn to the medium’s fluidity and unpredictability. Her work explores the relationship between abstraction and realism through compositions shaped by observation, memory, and everyday experience. Combining sensitivity to material, texture, and form, Sian creates images that balance deliberate structure with spontaneous gesture.

Artist statement
My work is inspired by both the world around me and my internal emotions, translating everyday observations and personal feelings into visual narratives. I am drawn to the intersection between abstraction and realism, where structured forms meet fluid, expressive gestures. Through experimentation with different materials, I explore texture, movement, and composition, allowing each piece to evolve organically.
