Crest

£495.00

Titled: Titled: Crest

Artist: Daisy Fulton

Size: 65 x 45 cm

Medium: Oil on Calico

Crest is a painting responding to Marrakesh, a city that overwhelmed me. I became fascinated by its textures, patterns, colours, the heat, and the constant movement. My work often hints at familiar places without identifying them, and here the tiled rooftop emerges from intuitive brush marks made while reminiscing. The title Crest nods to the top edge of the city, a point where so much happens, a bird’s-eye view above the windy streets. This piece is part of an ongoing series exploring how memory reshapes place. Crest has grown gradually over time, shaped by recollection, atmosphere, and the details that stayed with me.

Artist Statement

My practice is an honest response to my environment and surroundings, almost like a diary. I use colour, motifs, forms and lines to hint at places, spaces and things. I’m naturally nostalgic, drawn to smaller moments: the colour of a wall, the pattern of a tile, the details of a doorway. Painting has become a way of documenting this. Working from intuition and recollections creates areas on the canvas that are undefinable but sometimes familiar. The paintings evolve slowly, reworking and sometimes stealing sections from another canvas.
