The book followed the exhibition Constable: Le choix de Lucian Freud at the Grand Palais, Paris, held from 10 October 2002 to 13 January 2003. Freud worked closely with the British Council on the selection of works for the exhibition, making this publication an unusually personal reflection on another artist by one of the most significant British painters of the twentieth century.
Illustrated throughout with works by Constable, the book reproduces the conversation between Freud and Feaver that had originally appeared in French in the exhibition catalogue.
