A scarce early artist book published on the occasion of Richard Long’s 1977 exhibition The North Woods at the Whitechapel Art Gallery, London, held from 25 January to 27 February 1977.
The publication documents Long’s engagement with walking, landscape, sculpture and photographic recording, central themes within his practice and within the development of British Land Art and Conceptual Art during the 1970s.
Staple-bound and printed in a deliberately restrained format, the book contains 16 pages, including six photographic images and a map/drawing. The publication was issued in a total edition of 2,500 copies.
Long’s 1977 Whitechapel exhibition was his second major exhibition at the gallery and included sculptures and photographs documenting recent projects.
