Arthoods Review
Daisy Fulton’s paintings often bring to mind small feelings from everyday life that quietly stay in our minds for much longer than expected. Sometimes it may simply be a certain light, a colour, or a corner we have passed many times without ever properly noticing. Daisy’s works feel as though these easily overlooked moments have been gently held and left behind on the surface of the canvas.
There is a very natural movement within the colours and lines. Some areas feel quiet and restrained, while certain gestures suddenly become more direct and energetic, much like emotions that unexpectedly rise to the surface. The paintings do not feel like complete stories, but more like memories, feelings, and fragments of daily life slowly overlapping with one another. Daisy has mentioned that much of her inspiration comes from the environments and details surrounding her everyday life, such as colours of walls, light, spaces, doorways, or passing moments within the city. Although works like Crest were inspired by her experience of Marrakesh, the paintings are not direct depictions of a place, but instead preserve an atmosphere, a feeling, or an emotional moment connected to memory.
I deeply relate to this way of observing the world. Recently while travelling in Barcelona, I often found myself wanting to hold onto certain moments. Not necessarily famous landmarks, but perhaps a street corner, the atmosphere in the air, a particular light at a certain hour, or an emotion that suddenly appeared for only a few seconds. Sometimes the things we remember most are these small feelings that are almost impossible to fully describe. I also really enjoy the way Daisy approaches her titles. Names such as Burn the Candle, Can You Hear That, or The sunlight floods feel less like formal titles and more like fragments of conversation or emotions briefly passing through the mind. When placed alongside the paintings, they naturally invite viewers to connect their own memories and feelings to the works.
After spending time with Daisy Fulton’s paintings, I began wondering how many of us still keep the habit of writing diaries today. And if not, perhaps this is a gentle reminder to pick up a pen again. It does not always need to be written through words. Sometimes drawing something, painting a colour, or simply leaving behind a feeling can also become a way of recording our lives.

Artist Statement
My practice is an honest response to my environment and surroundings, almost like a diary. I use colour, motifs, forms and lines to hint at places, spaces and things. I’m naturally nostalgic, drawn to smaller moments: the colour of a wall, the pattern of a tile, the details of a doorway. Painting has become a way of documenting this. Working from intuition and recollections creates areas on the canvas that are undefinable but sometimes familiar. The paintings evolve slowly, reworking and sometimes stealing sections from another canvas.
